The Mission
The Rev. Dr. Tim Tharp is a Sidney, MT native who returned back to Richland County after over three decades in education to become an ordained pastor. Now serving as the pastor at four churches in MT and ND, Tim is also the elected Richland County Superintendent of Schools as well as the chairman of the Richland County Behavioral Health Local Advisory Council. He is a nationally certified instructor for a variety of mental health and wellbeing awareness programs: Adult Mental Health First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer—suicide prevention program), WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan), and CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management). In his role as County Superintendent, he has leveraged efforts to provide Character Strong education to all schools in Richland County, implement the Montana Cares app, and starting Hope Squads in high schools in the region.
Tim’s message is one of reducing the stigma that often surrounds mental illness and supports for mental well-being, teaching the importance of getting involved to help those in crisis, not being afraid to ask the critical question, and the bottom line is to prevent suicide.
Since Tim also serves as the President of the VFW Auxiliary to Post 4099, similar goals cross over to working as the Vice-President of the Northeast Montana Veterans Coalition. All veteran’s issues are supported, but the primary purpose is to prevent veteran suicide.
Tim also has lived experiences as he lost his brother to suicide several years ago.
Reducing the stigma, getting people the help they need, and helping to keep people alive is his primary goal.
